A Peek Inside a Mount Cook School Trip

There’s something truly transformative about taking learning beyond the classroom and into the open landscapes of the Peak District. A residential school trip at Mount Cook Adventure Centre gives students the opportunity to do just that, immersing themselves in a purpose-built outdoor environment on the edge of Derbyshire’s most iconic countryside.
On arrival, schools are welcomed with open arms by our office team and given a Wonderful Welcome Talk from our activity instructors. Then, the group dig into their packed lunches while sat in the beaming sun on our outdoor benches.
Our activity team then collect the groups for a safety briefing. Safety is our top priority here at Mount Cook so make sure your ears are open for the briefing!
Next step is the fun part… activities! Seeing as our mission is to provide the outdoors to all, an outdoor activity session is ideal. Soar on the zip wire, climb high on our high ropes course, learn fire lighting in bushcraft, or one of our many other activities!
After an afternoon of pushing boundaries, it’s time to settle in and recharge. Whether you’re staying in one of our cosy glamping pods or a modern indoor ensuite room, this is your space to unwind, so kick off your boots and make it your own! But the day doesn’t end when the sun starts to set. Once everyone has enjoyed a hearty, home-cooked meal in the dining hall, the evening magic begins.
Our evening activities are designed to end the day with another proud moment. You might find yourself launching water-powered missiles during a Rocket Building session, putting your heads together for frantic Team Challenges, or the highlight of any residential: gathering around a crackling campfire. There’s nothing quite like sharing the best stories of the day under the vast, starry skies of the Peak District to wrap up a perfect day of adventure.
The best part of a summer residential? You get to do it all again tomorrow! After a comfy night’s sleep in your pod or room, there’s no better way to shake off the morning mist than with a steaming, full-cooked breakfast in the dining hall. With batteries recharged, it’s straight back into the wild for another round of fun activities and team-building triumphs.
As the residential school trip draws to a close, the final day is all about making those last memories count. You’ll enjoy one more lovely breakfast and a final morning activity session to reach those last few personal goals. Before the coaches pull up, we’ll make sure you're fuelled up with a yummy packed lunch to enjoy on the journey home. You might leave with slightly muddier trainers, but you’ll head back with a newfound confidence and stories that will be told in the playground for weeks to come!
