We have a wide range of activities here at Mount Cook for all levels of activity experience and a variety of ages. We sort our activities by the skill you will develop on each activity session. Offsite activities are provided in our beautiful local area by Acclimbatize.

Rock Climbing & Offsite Scrambling

Our scrambling session is an on-the-rocks adventure at Black Rocks, about a 10 minute walk away from the centre along the High Peak Trail.

Then, as well as climbing on real limestone, the group will take part in belaying and tying knots.

Bushcraft

Embrace the nature with real survival skills in an adventurous environment.

Groups will experience and develop skills such as fire-lighting techniques, plant identification, natural cordage, animal tracking and shelter construction.

Archery Tag & Puzzle Pursuit

Archery tag is a competitive “dodgeball” like game, using teamwork and quick thinking to win the game.

Puzzle Pursuit will require the team to work together to solve a range of dilemmas. Your group’s ability to collaborate, communicate and use their problem-solving skills will be key to success.

Archery & Onsite Orienteering

Learn to shoot an arrow in the style of an Olympic archer using a modern recurve bow.
Learn and refine map reading skills including using keys, finding checkpoints and orientating the map.

Teamwork and sharing skills will be essential to complete our onsite course.

Unleash your creativity and teamwork as you design and build your very own bottle rocket using the materials provided. Once construction is complete, it’s time for the big launch—see how high your rocket can soar, whose design travels the furthest, and which team’s engineering skills truly take off!

Campfire & Bushcraft

Our bushcraft and campfire sessions are an outdoor experience focused on teaching practical woodland skills and fostering an appreciation for nature.

Sit by the fire whilst learning and developing skills such as fire-lighting and campfire gadgetry.

High Ropes

The High Ropes is one of our most popular onsite activities as it is excellent for team building and provides a fun, unique experience.

Our 40ft High Ropes tower includes the Gladiator Challenge, Jacobs Ladder, and Leap of Faith.

The High Ropes will challenge your group to keep each other safe, set their own goals, and work together to reach new heights.

Rock Climbing Offsite

You will be taught by our highly trained instructors how to put on a harness, the climbing knows and how to abseil down a rock face safely. Black Rock climbing area is a playground for lovers of Rock Climbing and Bouldering.

Zip Wire & Across the Divide

Zip from the roof of Mount Cook across a quarry! The zip is 100m long and can reach speeds of up to 35mph.

"Across the Divide" includes creative problem solving to get from A to B. Includes activities such as Traverse Wall, Spiders Web, Stepping Stones & more.

Min weight: 20kg Max weight: 116kg. Participants will be weighed

Split into two tribes from 2000BC - Caledonii and Iceni. Along the way, compete to solve riddles, build catapults, and conquer Britain first. May the best tribe win!

Caving

Explore some of the amazing caves that we have on our doorstep whilst learning historical and environmental information.

Caves can be challenging environments, with narrow passages, water, and varying temperatures, requiring physical fitness and adaptability. This session will also include a short steep walk to the caves.

Fossil Hunting and Gem Panning

Step back in time and explore our site, where you can uncover a fascinating variety of fossils dating back over 300 million years to when our quarry laid beneath the sea!
Discover remnants of ancient marine life and imagine the prehistoric world they once lived in.

After your fossil hunt, try your hand at gem panning in our specialist trough! Sift through the water, uncover hidden treasures, and see if you can identify a dazzling range of stones and crystals.

Canoeing

Enhance your group's confidence on the water by using a canoe to alternate paddle strokes on each side of the canoe to propel and steer the boat.

These sessions are delivered at Carsington Water or on Cromford Canal.

Orienteering at Black Rocks

Building on basic map skills, our offsite orienteering course takes you around our local area of black rock and the high peak trail.

Using a range of map-reading techniques, you’ll navigate from point to point, testing your accuracy, decision-making, and sense of direction. Every turn brings a new challenge and a chance to sharpen your navigation skills while exploring the stunning local area.

Indoor Climbing & Landkarts

Explore plenty of routes in our purpose-built climbing wall. Climbers will buddy up to practice and share advice. Participants will harness the skills learnt and shared to help them move up the wall.

Participants must work together in small teams to plan, build and race their Land Kart. They will learn the skills necessary to assemble their chosen design, then, with good communication and teamwork, they will create a kart.

Larger Karts available for Year 8+ / 12+ years old

Low Ropes & Kiwi Quest

Designed to encourage problem solving, teamwork, balance, and communication, our purpose built low ropes course and mini zip is a great activity to build up confidence.

The Kiwi Quest blends ice breakers with fun to build teamwork and trust. Activities include Through the Hoop, Human Knot, Robot Wars, Bridge the Gap, and more!

Raft Building

Raft Building is a superb team building activity! Groups are required to work as a team to input design ideas, form a plan and create a buoyant raft using a selection of materials.

If teams are successful and work as a co-ordinated, cohesive unit to cross the open water and fully complete their challenge – organised celebrations and antics ahoy!

Via Ferrata

Our Via Ferrata (Italian for “iron path”) is inspired by the fixed protection climbing routes in the European Alps which date back to the start of the 20th Century.

The activity provides an opportunity to choose your level of challenge while traversing the quarry rock face from ground level up to heights of 8m above the ground.
It can also provide a great opportunity for developing teamwork by helping each other tackle the more difficult obstacles.

The Mount Cook Challenge

Team Challenges will be placed around site for small teams to locate on a map. Teamwork and group management will be required, aiming to collect as many points as possible on each challenge.

The group are given the freedom to choose which challenges to attempt and complete.

Rock Climbing & Abseiling

Our onsite climbing wall and abseil offers the group a new experience and individual challenge, this includes going over the edge of an outdoor rock face as well as up.
During the climb, the group will take part in belaying and tying knots. Group support will be vital, and teamwork will be the key to success.

Guided Offsite Walk

Head out with one of our experienced instructors on an evening adventure, following scenic footpaths from our centre to discover the beauty of the local area.

As you walk, you’ll learn about the landscape, wildlife, and history that make this place so special, while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside as the day winds down.
