As a team based at an adventurous outdoor activity centre, we have explored and discovered all the best spots nearby and would love to share our favourite spots with visiting adventurers. Just a few minutes' walk away from Mount Cook Adventure Centre is a great Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) called the National Stone Centre. Containing some amazing geographical interests, activities for young, interested geologists, and a wonderful cafe, you'd be upset to miss out on this rocking place!
As the NSC is volunteer ran, you can see how enthusiastic everyone is for this charity and be greeted by big smiling faces!

As Mount Cook is big on sustainability (seen in this previous blog), this hub for sustainable learning with a drive for combatting climate change is highly recommended by us. Derbyshire Eco Centre has a range of courses led by Derbyshire County Council to teach you hands-on experiences ranging from dry stone walling and gardening to a wide variety of eco-friendly crafts.
This building and landscape around has been designed with local stone, a living grass roof, places to harvest rainfall and plenty of solar panels, I personally would say that is unbe-leaf-ibly amazing!

The High Peak Trail is a 17.5-mile, traffic-free trail and you can enter it just next to Mount Cook! Once part of the Cromford and High Peak Junction railway, carrying minerals and goods, but now it is a beautiful and historical route for a cycle or walk.
At Middleton Top, approximately 15 minutes walk from us, you're able to hire a bike for a breath-taking cycle down the trail!
Calling all climbers or scramblers! With views of Matlock Gorge, Cromford and the Derwent Valley Mills Heritage Site, the climb or scramble will feel worth it!
Although the rocks look scary to try reach the summit of, there are multiple different routes making it accessible for any age. Also including a picnic area with a perfect view of Black Rocks, you should absolutely visit this gorgeous part of the Peak District.
The picturesque market town of Wirksworth is bound to make anyone want to stay forever! With quaint and artsy shops, inviting cafes and traditional pubs, it's a perfect day out for anyone.
