The marketing team from a Derbyshire based activity centre head on a volunteering day with the Peak District National Park Foundation!
Ladybower Reservoir, Derbyshire – 18/06/2025 – Mount Cook Adventure Centre is a not-for-profit organisation based on the edge of the Peak District. Their marketing team, Marketing Manager Madeline and Marketing Apprentice Elliott, travelled to Ladybower Reservoir to meet the Peak District National Park Foundation Fundraising Manager and a group of other businesses from the local area.
This networking event was set up through Visit Peak District and Derbyshire. The day opened with a warm welcome from Lisa Woolhouse, the Membership and Sales manager for Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, and other marketers from local businesses, such as Peak Village Shopping Centre. The group were greeted by Peak District National Park volunteers who gave the actions plan for the day; building an accessible path and drainage system.

Access to the outdoors for all is Mount Cook Adventure Centre’s core mission, so rebuilding the accessible entrance to one of the dam towers for people with limited mobility was an ideal job to complete. The National Park takes part in ‘Miles without Stiles’, a program to ensure maintenance and accessibility of multiple walking routes round the Peak District. This allows people of any ability, including wheelchair or pushchair users, to walk the routes and be able to appreciate the park as much as anyone else. All-terrain wheelchairs are also available to hire for to those who would prefer smoother journey around the park.
The Mount Cook Adventure Centre Marketing team worked with the Peak District Park Foundation volunteers to load up trailers with rocks and sand, dig out a drainage system and load them with stone to decrease winter flooding, and created a smooth, flat path out of rock and sand.
The other members who joined for this volunteer day were from a variety of different Derbyshire-based companies. The family trio from Hoe Grange Holidays shared information regarding their award-winning accessibility features, including guided tours, off road scooters, and dementia friendly holidays. These holidays for people with different needs are crucial to families who still want their family members to enjoy the break away!
The day was a huge success; the path was completed quickly, and the working party were in high spirits despite the hot sun and hard labour. An excellent lunch from the Peak District Park Foundation also provided.
"This was an amazing first networking event with Visit Peak District, and it felt great to help out the park with something that will help people massively!” - Elliott, Marketing Apprentice
If you are interested in joining a volunteer day, as an individual or as a company for a CSR day, with the Peak District National Park Foundations, anyone is welcome to book online on the Peak District Website.
